It’s not every day, or every morning, we get the opportunity to listen and be inspired but a great leader. Some of us are fortunate to work for an inspiring leader and daily gain their wisdom and influence.

I’m fortunate that my great leaders bring us their favorite mentors to give us just that little extra to our year, to motivate us, encourage us, teach us, and help us grow.

“A Morning With” is my way to share what I have learned with you, to help motivate you and encourage you, to recommend some great reads, and to remind myself that powerful and positive messages can be a change in our lives.

Jon Gordon, author and speaker and all around amazing guy, has been motivating me every single year since I first read the book One Word That Will Change Your Life. He collaborated with a couple friends to introduce the concept of choosing one word each year to be your lightening rod.

My word this year is FOCUS. We’ll come back to this in another post, so until then, here are my top takeaways from an amazing morning with Jon Gordon.

Gordon’s books The Power of Positive Leadership and The Power of Positive Team have both been part of our work “book club” series – books we’ve been given by our leaders and encouraged to DEVOUR as quick as possible. Which, of course, I did.

You don’t have to be a “leader” to read a leadership book and you don’t have to be on a professional team to read a team building book. Both can apply to ALL areas of your life.

“You are contagious!”

By investing in yourself, you are investing in your team, in your leadership, in your culture, in everything.

“Your positivity needs to be greater than the negativity.”

We must continue, no matter the circumstances, the the best is yet to come. Think positive, believe, never give up. “JUST KEEP RUNNING!”

“You cannot be stressed and thankful at the same time.”

Jon Gordon shares so much about this aspect in his books and in this morning. We need to start talking to ourselves, instead of listening to ourselves. I am guilty of this. I’m not “feeding my positive dog” as he likes to call it. I let my fears and worries overshadow the positive outcome.

4 C’s

“Create from the inside out.”

  • Communicate
  • Connect
  • Commit
  • Care

Who do I need to believe in? Who do I need to encourage? Who needs me?

If there is only one thing you take away today, let it be the 1% Rule.

Give more today than yesterday.

More love.
More care.
More effort.
More connection.
More communication.
More WE before ME.

Now one last action item, the same that Jon encouraged us all to do. Pick one person, or two, or however many you want.

Text them and tell them you care, you love, you’re there. Share the message. Connect more. Communicate more. Be present more.

Love wins every time.
